Japanese old horror story inspire One Piece Character

Manga

Sindri, a zombie, appears early in the Thriller Park section. This woman emerges from a well and throws plates at the Mugiwara gang.

In the story, it is explained that Sindri smashed all 10 plates that her fiancé treasures in order to confirm his love for her. However, why the well and why the plates seem out of context to foreign readers.

Actually, this story is based on a ghost story passed down from 300 years ago during the Edo period in Japan.

The ghost story is called Sarayashiki, and is about a 16-year-old woman named Okiku who was in the service of a certain king. Following is the overview.
One day, Okiku breaks one of the 10 plates that the feudal lord treasures.
For this, Okiku is severely punished and locked up in a prison cell.
To escape the severe punishment, Okiku escapes from the prison at night and commits suicide by throwing herself into a well. After Okiku’s death, at night, a woman comes out of the well and counts the number of plates, and when she has counted nine, she cries out that she is one plate short. After Okiku’s death, a strange phenomenon began to occur: every night, when a woman counted down the number of plates from the well, she would hear a voice crying out that she was one plate short.

Once this background is understood, it becomes clear that Sindri has nine plates to throw and why she appears from the well.
Although Sindri ultimately has a happy ending, multiple endings are mentioned at the end of this chrysanthemum. If you are interested, please look them up.
